Dentist Fort Lee The Dental Black Triangles

Dentist near Cliffside Park Shares Information about Dental Black Triangles

Dental black triangles refer to the small gaps between teeth or diastemas, which often appear triangular in shape, hence, the name. These are mainly caused by a missing gum. Although black triangles are quite common occurrences, they do require advanced procedures for treatment.

Where Do These Black Triangles Come From?

The appearance of dental black triangles springs from a variety of causes. Some are results from improper, or lack of oral hygiene and others pertains to the natural development of teeth.

Several oral hygiene-related conditions might have caused dental black triangles to appear. These include receding gums, periodontal diseases, and low-quality dentistry.

Dental black triangles can also be the result of disproportionate teeth development. In these cases, the root of the teeth appears to be much more narrow than the exposed crown’s width, thus, increasing the chances of these triangular blank spaces to appear, especially after dental treatment. Moreover, if your dentist isn’t into pre-planning before performing any treatment, the chances will go even higher.

Gum Recession

Gum recession is the leading cause of dental black triangle appearance. This has something to do with your gum tissue. There are two types of gum tissue (gingival biotypes) – the thick biotype and the thin biotype.

People with thick gum tissue are less likely to lose any gum papilla in between teeth and develop dental black triangles. On the other hand, people with thin gum tissue are more susceptible to gum tissue loss and recession. To prevent any gum tissue loss, dentists performing any dental treatment should handle these patients extra carefully.

If sufficient gum tissues can no longer fill the dental black triangles, patients may opt to have these filled by a qualified cosmetic dentist or prosthodontist. The only problem with this procedure is that it rarely comes out looking natural; hence, the “square tooth” appearance.

Conclusion

Whether it’s a natural occurrence or developed through a series of poor dental-related decision making, dental black triangles can be a major insecurity. Lucky for us, we can do something about it like switching to better oral care habits, for one.
