Thermage® is an FDA-approved skin tightening treatment that drastically reduces the appearance of wrinkles, jowls, and sagging facial skin. Known by some as a "non-surgical face lift," the non-invasive procedure produces immediate results with virtually no pain. It does so by stimulating collagen production, thereby improving the skin’s elasticity.
What is Thermage®?
The Thermage® system utilizes heat to treat the underlying layers of the skin (the dermis and subcutaneous layers), “tricking” the skin into thinking it has been injured. The skin then responds by re-growing collagen, thereby increasing elasticity. Meanwhile, Thermage® simultaneously cools the skin’s outer layer (the epidermis).
The Thermage® Procedure
The Thermage® procedure usually takes about an hour. The doctor adjusts the heat level to meet the patient’s needs and aesthetic goals. (Higher heat levels achieve a more pronounced result.) He then applies the Thermage® ThermaTip® device to the skin; each touch of the device lasts between two and seven seconds and covers approximately one-half of a square inch of skin. Patients usually report a brief, deep heating sensation with each touch of the tip, but minimal overall discomfort. Recovery from Thermage® treatment is typically quick and relatively painless, and patients can resume normal activities almost immediately.
