If you want to have a healthy mouth and a winning smile, it is important to develop good dental hygiene. Sadly, not everyone develops such habits, leading to major problems with dental hygiene and health down the road. Our Fort Lee cosmetic dentist and our dental care team have decided to look at some of these common bad dental habits that people develop and discuss why they are bad.
Not Brushing Regularly
Brushing your teeth at least twice a day (ideally after every meal) is important if you want to have a good looking smile and want to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. And yet, many people don’t brush regularly. This allows plaque to build up, food particles to remain between teeth, and many problems down the road.
Not Flossing Regularly
Ideally, you should floss everyday in order to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. But, really, many people neglect to floss every day. Flossing will catch the plaque and food caught between the teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach. If you don’t floss currently, it is a good idea to begin flossing daily to improve your dental health.
Not Visiting the Dentist Regularly
We cannot stress just how important it is for people to visit their dentist twice a year for their regular check-ups. Only your dentist has the diagnostic tools and expertise necessary to identify major dental problems and treat them before they get worse. Many people, however, neglect to visit the dentist as necessary, which can lead to major dental health and even general health problems in the future.
